I just finished the grades for this quarter, and I must say I am pleased with MANY of the students in all the classes! Thanks to all of the families who helped their children with practicing and trying to record it as accurately as possible! Nika and I are working on some other possible ways to collect data for grades, because I know practice records aren't perfect, and perfection is a nice place to reach for! :-) If your child's grade is less than they hoped, talk to me about it. "Missing or incomplete" work indicates that a practice record (or two??) were not turned in. As irritating as those things can be (trust me, I know. I look at about 200 of them every month!), they are a form of accountability- the best I have right now! "Disruptive behavior" is repeated outbursts of some kind (usually to get attention). "Talkative" is chattiness. "Needs a more positive attitude" means they come to class regularly with an attitude that says "I'm not working today". Anyway, I hope these comments help. If you know me personally, you know that I am always open to talking about ANYTHING that concerns you. Even if I disagree, I will always consider what you have said, and will try to convey "my side" if there is confusion; my desire is always to do what I feel is best for your child's musical and personal development. Also- I consider this report card sort of a "progress report" for the semester. Any improvements made between now and the semester will be reflected in that report card! Thanks for your support!! Our Winter Band and Jazz Concert is Thursday, December 4, at 7 pm in the JM Gymnasium! The Cadet, Concert, Symphonic and Jazz Bands are all playing. We are starting a NEW TRADITION this year! We would like to have a brief social gathering after the concert and are requesting (NOT requiring!!) that families bring one "goodie" to share. If you have students in the December 4 AND the December 16 concerts (orchestra/choir), then please don't feel obligated to provide for both concerts. No worries if you find you are quite busy next week too. Tables will be set up at the entrance to the gym. Please drop your food off on one of the tables when you arrive.
