From ANoel at moraga.k12.ca.us Fri Feb 13 10:29:39 2009 From: ANoel at moraga.k12.ca.us (Adam Noel) Date: Fri, 13 Feb 2009 10:29:39 -0800 Subject: [moraga-music-announce] Elementary Upcoming! Message-ID: <955009FB42F26A4FBD8089943D981A9601191696@msd-exchange.msd.local> Hello Moraga Elementary Parents! First of all, I want to thank you for your continued support. I honestly see significant improvement in the vast majority of students participating this year! If there are any questions or concerns please contact me and we can work through it! FRIDAY BAND CLASS is cancelled this upcoming week (the 20th) because I have to leave campus by 3:30 that day. If any of you would like some help or want to make sure you can play a little this week, and you can swing by between 3 and 3:30, you are of course welcome. I apologize for any inconvenience!! ALL BEGINNING BAND AND ORCHESTRA MEMBERS: Now is the time for some potential transitions! I recently passed out a worksheet/checklist for students to self-assess what they have learned so far. I will be accepting some students into the intermediate level Cadet Band (Thursday at 4:35-5:30) and Intermediate Orchestra (Tuesdays 4:35-5:40). If your child: -feels that they have learned a good deal of that checklist -feels able to learn more on their own (has worked ahead in the book, for example, or is learning additional music or taking private lessons) -feels that they are ahead of the beginning class then maybe this "early graduation" is a good idea for them! In the intermediate classes, the students are given sheet music with individual parts which, when played together, form a nice ensemble sound. The classes are more about "making music" than "learning your instrument", because most students in the class already took the beginning class. They will also play in the corresponding Spring band/orchestra concert with the JM ensembles! I especially recommend these classes for 5th graders (so they get some intermediate experience before 6th grade music if they choose to continue), but it is also open to fourth graders. If your child is comfortable (or uncomfortable!) at the beginning level, then disregard! I will start interviewing/auditioning next time your beginning class is held. Friday students may come Monday the 23rd if they don't want to wait until the 27th to try out. I WILL NOT REQUIRE ANY STUDENTS TO TRY OUT FOR INTERMEDIATE during these weeks. It is optional and only encouraged if the student feels potentially ready. The most important thing is that all students end up in the right place for their attained level! Thank you for your continued support! anoel at moraga.k12.ca.us 376-0937 Adam Noel -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: <955009FB42F26A4FBD8089943D981A9601191698@msd-exchange.msd.local> This Wednesday night at 7:30 at the CPAC (campolindo performing arts center)The Campolindo Orchestra is performing a Brahms Violin concerto with a special guest, as well as Prokoviev's "Peter and the Wolf", featuring the campo choir director Ms. Kikkawa as narrator! Peter and the Wolf is a great folk tale in which animals and people are represented by different instruments in the orchestra! A GREAT family concert! Before the show, starting at 6:45, some JM and Campo students will be playing some instruments in the lobby to give young potential players a chance to "meet the characters" before hearing Peter and the Wolf! On Feruary 23rd, members of Campo's instrumental program will perform chamber music! On February 26th, the Campo Band program will have its Winter concert, including a new piece specifically written for them! I always recommend JM and Elementary musicians listen to fine local musicians! JM students who are interested in bringing their instruments to the Peter and the Wolf concert make sure to arrive by about 6:40 so you can set up and be ready for kids! If you haven't gotten your details sheet, Mr. Noel still has some! Adam Noel -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
