I just wanted to give you all a heads-up. Our CMEA festival for this year (at De La Salle High School) is on Saturday the 24th of January (NOT the 31st as indicated before.) I just got the letter from the CMEA group this weekend- our time slot is from 1:30-3:30 (we warm up at 1:40 and start our judging at 2:05.) I will be sending out thorough information this week, so be on the look-out! Adam Noel -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: <955009FB42F26A4FBD8089943D981A960114382F@msd-exchange.msd.local> Young People's Symphony Orchestra! Feb 7th (8 PM) and 8th (2 PM), at Moraga Valley Presbyterian Church. Featuring Works by Gershwin, Hindemith, Lalo, Bartok and composer-in-residence child prodigy cellist Dylan Mattingly! Both concerts are the same, but the SUNDAY concert is FREE (it's a community outreach!) (2 French Hornists, one bassoonist and one violist are Campo Orchestra members! :-)) It should be very cool! The two winners of their annual concerto competition will be playing. http://Ypsomusic.net Adam Noel -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: <955009FB42F26A4FBD8089943D981A9601143842@msd-exchange.msd.local> Well, the results are in, the tears are shed, the "yippee!"s are shouted, and you get to deal with the aftermath- First of all- if your child is feeling really awful about the results, PLEASE encourage them to talk to me about it. MOST of the time, their chair is indicative of their efforts, but occasionally something just happens and they "blow" the audition. To be fair, I want the audition results to reflect ONLY the performance at that moment. A blind audition is the most even playing field I can offer (even my veteran colleagues are impressed with JM's fair audition process and are considering implementing it themselves!) Secondly- there is another audition coming up in March. Encourage your child to pursue steps which will either maintain or advance their position in the section! This may include- Lunch or after-school practice (or guided practice if desired!), Private lessons, or good-old fashioned elbow-grease. :-) Thirdly- students are always encouraged to approach me about additional challenging repertoire (especially if their chair does not reflect their usual level of skill this time!) Anyway, I hope it goes well! Please send your children to me if you sense that they feel an injustice has occurred! Even if they are disappointed, I want each child to at least have an understanding of their results, even if they will not change until the next audition! I encourage any enthusiastic, creative parent to contact Cathleen (at the bottom of this page) and to consider helping with this! The CAW contest is working hard to promote arts in the Moraga School District by showcasing talented young people and providing a contest for feedback and prizes! See below! Adam Noel. Mr. Noel - The parent's club need to find a person to chair the music portion of the Creative Arts and Writing Contest. While I am happy to mentor and assist someone, I really cannot chair the music competition this year. I wondered if you could send the following message to all music families via your email system - choir, band, and orchestra. Feel free to make changes if you send it out. Thanks - Cathleen Parents: The Creative Arts and Writing Contest needs a chairperson for the music portion of the contest. The job is very simple, yet very important to our students. It includes: 1.. Finding 3 judges (Most judges from prior years will volunteer again. References will be provided.) 2.. Provide rules to the students and/or make a brief presentation in each music class encouraging the kids to participate (optional). 3.. Collect the entries, organize them, review them for completeness, and provide them to the judges. 4.. Get the decision from the judges and report the results to the co-chairs of the entire contest. Another person will make the actual awards. 5.. Display all entries in the library, attaching ribbons to the winning entries. 6.. Play some of the submissions as families are being seated during the awards ceremony and in the library during the reception following the ceremony. 7.. Thank the judges for their time and effort. It may sound complicated, but the job is really very easy and fun. Last year's chairperson will assist. Feel free to partner with someone too. Please contact the following parents if you have any questions or can help with the contest.
