The Choral CMEA festival packet should have come home either yesterday or today (If they forgot! It happens...) We are very fortunate to have a festival location in LAFAYETTE this year (which minimizes the impact to your Saturday! :-) This event is very exciting, for those who are new to it. Essentially, professional vocal teachers from around the area will be critiquing our choir for their ability to sing together in a professional way. The standards are universal vocal education standards, which I have been consistently presenting on a daily basis. We will be given 3 scores from the judges, which determine our overall rating of (low to high) Needs Improvement, Fair, Good, Excellent or Superior. Those who are driving are welcome to join us as an audience. We will also be getting a professional clinic and a photo afterwards! Please return all required forms ASAP! Message-ID: <955009FB42F26A4FBD8089943D981A9601143B06@msd-exchange.msd.local> The JM Bands and Orchestra attended the CMEA festival this year at San Ramon Valley High School. All of the groups gave strong performances, earning them high scores! The Concert Band received all Excellent marks, the Symphonic Band earned 2 Excellents, One Superior and a Good in sight reading, and the Orchestra Received Unanimous Superior ratings, earning them a plaque for our music room wall! According to our music room wall history, no orchestra at JM has ever won this level of award! What a great achievement! Congratulations to all of the groups! I would love to see some more of our previous-year-students join us (the camp is ever-evolving and I welcome suggestions from those who have previous years of experience!). We want to see "newbies" too! It's a relatively comfortable music activity for the summer- close to home, relatively affordable and involving local string students! I highly recommend the camp for those making a transition to a new education level (e.g. 5th to 6th grade or 8th to 9th), as we have several staff members who know what you will need to be successful in your upcoming year. Also, meeting and working with Jeremy Cohen is going to be a FABULOUS experience. Check him out on YouTube to hear some really hip tango stuff!! As you are aware, the JM Music ensembles serve our school in a variety of ways, one of them being at our annual SPRING FLING, which happens before open house on Tuesday the 19th of May this year. Here is the performance schedule for the ensembles. Each group must arrive at least 10 minutes before their performance time and music students MUST wear their music shirts for their Spring Fling performances (even if it's over a long-sleeve shirt) 5:00 - 5:15 Concert Band 5:30 - 5:45 Jazz Cats 6:00 - 6:15 Orchestra 6:25 - 6:40 Choir 6:40 - 6:55 Symphonic Band Symphonic Band (and any other music students who are hanging around!) please be responsible afterwards to help cart our equipment back to the music room (65+ kids will make it go QUICKLY~) Thank you! Message-ID: <955009FB42F26A4FBD8089943D981A9601143B9B@msd-exchange.msd.local> Okay, Elementary Parents! The school year is ending! It's time for the final curtain! Here is a schedule of upcoming events! All classes will have a final parent-invitational "performance" class. I want this to be simple, so here is the plan: CADET BAND will have a concert on the night of Tuesday May 26th at 7PM. Please arrive at 6:45 and wear something semi-dressy (No ripped jeans, etc....) INTERMEDIATE ORCHESTRA will have a concert the night of Tuesday June 2nd at 7 PM. Please arrive at 6:45 and wear something semi-dressy (a collared shirt maybe? A polo?) These concerts will both be held in the JM Gymnasium. Please bring some homework so they can sit and hear the older groups play- it can be inspiring! The week of Memorial Day is our final week of classes (officially). The Tuesday through Friday classes will meet as usual, but parents are welcome to join us for a final observation/"concert" and presentation of certificates for completing a year of instrumental music! The timing for these classes may end a bit earlier because obviously we are not playing Mahler Symphonies yet, and because we will not be covering our "homework" for the following lesson because there isn't a following lesson! The final MONDAY classes need to be pushed to June 1st because there is no school on the 25th of May. Yes, it is possible to attend the Monday class if you miss the Friday one for some reason! I hope you can make it to the last day of class- most of these children have made great strides in their playing this year, and it means a lot for them to see you there!! Thank you!
